About Lawrence

By Lawrence | June 21, 2009

Thanks again for your interest in my speechwriting service.

Here’s a bit more about me.

After graduating in History from Peterhouse, Cambridge, I spent ten years in and around the City creating brand and marketing strategies for banks and wealth managers.

Writing remained my passion, and wherever possible I wrote, gave and listened to speeches and presentations. Some pretty clear trends soon emerged.

I realised that getting it right – making the audience really listen and engage – wasn’t a fluke. The bad ones were too technical and suffocated by detail. The good ones were crisp, original and easy to bring to life.

Around this time, many friends and relatives started to get married and I spent an increasing number of evenings and weekends helping them write their best man and groom speeches.

It was fun and rewarding – often more so than the day job.  So I placed a small classified in Private Eye in 2004. What started as a hobby very quickly took over my professional life. And I’ve loved it ever since.

I still do some marketing consultancy and this website sets out some of the work I have undertaken for corporate clients.

Great Speech Writing now has private and business clients based all over the world. They range from senior people in the private and public sectors giving high profile speeches, presentations and pitches, to best men, fathers-of-the bride and nervous grooms worried about their wedding speech.

I’m happy to speak to anyone about a speech, whether they want me to write it from scratch, or just need a bit of advice.  Wherever possible, I will try to help them create something simple, intelligent and original.

I’ll never charge for a phone call and my discretion is assured.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the site and I look forward to hearing from you.

I am giving a motivational speech about my visit inJan 2009, to some of the community based organisations funded by ASAP(african solutions to african problems) in South Africa, at a fund raiser lunch in London in June this year. I spent 2 weeks traveling round, mostly by car, with the founder of ASAP, Scilla Higham. I wrote ajournal at the time thank God, so willl be able to remember a fair bit, and I have photos.

As I said on the phone, I think I have only a few minutes. I have sent an e mail to the charity secretary asking exactly how long I have. I will have a think and come up with a framework of what i think I need to say.

    best wishes,

    Melanie Metcalfe
